TEDxMálaga 2019
Beginning this year, I designed the TEDxMálaga 2019 stage. I would love to tell you about the design concept, which is based on the origin and development of ideas that will be shared with the community.
When I started making the stage design, I wanted to picture windows as an element that connects private and public spaces. In my opinion, ideas are born in the most unexpected occasions and places. Thus, when one looks through a window, he or she could be able to see people coming up with an innovative idea in different scenarios. In a sense, TEDx allows speakers to share those internal thoughts with the audience every time they arrive at the red spot of the stage.
For me, parks are the best places where community members can freely share their ideas. It could be said that parks are the Greek agoras of the XXI Century. This is due to the fact that there we can meet people with different opinions, values, and beliefs. On the stage, we used tree trunks and natural leaves to enhance the feeling that TEDx Speakers were leaving their homes to enter into a natural environment where they can make connections with the community of Málaga.
In this design, those connections start in the red round carpet. For this reason, you can see how red lines emerge from it and spread in all directions over the stage.
Furthermore, I was focused on the rhythm management of the event. I wanted to create different environments for the master of ceremonies and for the speakers. For this reason, I designed a futuristic stage covered of red lines that change into a building front. Although the venue technical difficulties, the lighting designer and myself managed to make that happen through the light.
Thank you so much to the photography team for those wonderful photographs.
